‘The pain never ends with this club!’ Manchester United supporters are enraged after they miss out on Cody Gakpo… as gleeful Liverpool fans hail the perfect Boxing Day after agreeing a £44m move for the Dutch star hours after win over Aston Villa
Manchester United supporters were enraged after Liverpool hijacked their move for Netherlands and PSV star Cody Gakpo.
The forward had been widely linked with a move to Old Trafford in January but on Monday night, it was announced out of nowhere that the Reds had agreed a £44m move for Gakpo.
United had instigated talks with the Dutch club, but there were still yet to finalise a financial offer and have now missed out on a major target ahead of January.

And after the news broke that they had missed out on Gakpo, United supporters were quick to bemoan their situation.
One said: ‘I logged off Twitter for 20 mins and Gakpo’s gone to Liverpool??’
Another added: ‘These Gakpo stories have rattled me man. The pain never ends with this club, NO MATTER WHAT.’
A further user was infuriated by the news and explained how it highlighted much deeper problems at the club, pointing fingers towards United’s unpopular American owners the Glazers.
They said: ‘Last Jan Liverpool sign Diaz, while Rangnick begs for attackers, this January Liverpool sign Gakpo, while Ten Hag is begging for an attacker and Gakpo was first choice…there is a reason why Man Utd haven’t won a trophy in 6 years and Liverpool have.. it starts with a G.’

On the other hand, Liverpool fans could barely hide their delight at their potential new signing – with the news of the fee being agreed coming completely out of the blue.
It also came hours after their impressive 3-1 win over Aston Villa on their return to Premier League action which took them within touching distance of the top four.
One delighted supporters said: ‘Liverpool win their first Prem game back and sign Gakpo on the same day. Warra day. Goodnight.’

Another quipped: ‘Three points and Cody Gakpo? If Carlsberg did Boxing Days.’
Other fans meanwhile couldn’t resist poking fun at their great rivals having gazumped them in a move for the PSV star.
One shared a photo of Reds midfielder Thiago laughing and captioned the post: ‘We got Gakpo for half the price of Antony,’ referencing the Brazilian’s £85m summer move to Old Trafford.
Another added: ‘Thanks for all the scouting reports and compilations on Gakpo United fans, we’ll take it from here.’
Elsewhere, a Chelsea supporter added: ‘Gakpo was in talks with United for 6 months and it took Liverpool 1 hour to sign him lmao. Massive L for United man.’
