Strictly’s Anton Du Beke says ‘I wish I took a different path’ in candid career admission

However, in a new interview, Anton has admitted that he sometimes wishes his career took a different path.

Speaking to Gaby Roslin, 58, on her podcast, Anton explained that his thoughts were sparked when he was listening to opera singer Roberto Alagna’s appearance on an old episode of Desert Island Discs.

Anton explained to Gaby: “[Roberto] is a remarkable talent and I was listening to him and his story. I love when somebody has chosen a particular path and, come what may, they stick to their path and eventually they reach their dream.

“And, I suddenly got this sort of heavy heart.

“I had this feeling of, I wish maybe I had taken a path to being a slightly more dramatic artist. I don’t like to use the word serious artist, a classical artist maybe.”

Going into more detail, Anton says he feels that classical artists are “held in a slightly different realm” and are regarded “differently to somebody who is in the entertainment world”.

The former Big Breakfast host agreed with Anton before he continued: “Sometimes I have this feeling that I wish I’d maybe have gone down that road and been held in a slightly different regard.”

Nevertheless, the dancer went on to say that he doesn’t believe he would have enjoyed the classical industry because he doesn’t like the “fourth wall” and prefers to be “with the audience”.

The show has been moved to Sunday this week due to the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

It will air live at 7.15pm, with the results show airing the following day on Monday at 8.15.

The big final is expected to take place on Saturday, December 17, where one couple will take home the coveted Glitterball Trophy.
