Drew Barrymore Gives Away New Car to 16-Year-Old Hero on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’

With an audience full of Drew-gooders, someone is bound to go home with a new set of wheels — especially with the holiday season upon us. During today’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, during which Drew Barrymore and Ross Mathews gave away more than $300,000 in gifts to their audience, one 16-year-old hero walked away with the jackpot.

Chicago native Reaghan Monahan recently saved her mother’s life while the duo was driving home from a volleyball game this past October. Reaghan’s mom, Liz, began to have a seizure, prompting the 16-year-old to flag down a nearby paramedic and guide the car to the side of the road from the passenger seat.

“I was very, very terrified and I realized I had to do something fast,” she explained to Barrymore. “My dad passed away a few years ago and I knew I could not lose my mom.”

Liz, who sat beside Reaghan, could help but gush over her daughter’s bravery as she said, “She’s just a true hero and I’m very grateful that she was able to spring into action and be so brave and save us, and like I said, others who were on the road that evening too.”

Meanwhile, Barrymore pointed out that newly-licensed driver Reaghan “must’ve showed up and been like, ‘Trust me. I’ve seen things that are not on this test,’” before surprising the teenager with the keys to a brand new Jeep Compass 2022.

“I’m so happy because we can all go through so much stuff in life but when you have that happy ending, when you can see what’s possible in the human strength, endurance, spirits, instincts, leap before you look to save someone else, I mean, we just want to celebrate you,” Barrymore told her guests.

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays at 9:30 a.m. ET.
