Marlins only keeping Sandy Alcantara off limits as they look to bolster lineup

The Miami Marlins are looking to upgrade their lineup this offseason, and that means they’ll likely trade some starting pitchers.

One pitcher, however, is completely off limits.

The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Sunday that the Marlins will listen to offers on “almost anyone” other than Cy Young winner Sandy Alcántara.

Alcántara had a 2.28 ERA over 228.2 innings pitched with 207 strikeouts in 2022. His six complete games led MLB. The Marlins went 19-13 in games in which Alacantra started. Over a quarter of Miami’s total wins in 2022 came in those contests.

With Alcántara the only name off the block in Miami, names like Jesús Luzardo, who had a good 2022 campaign of his own with a 3.32 ERA and 120 strikeouts, and Edward Cabrera, who had a 3.01 ERA with 75 strikeouts, will be available, along with Pablo Lopez (3.75 ERA in 180 innings.)

In 2022, Sandy Alcántara became the third Cy Young Award winner from the Dominican Republic, joining Pedro Martínez and Bartolo Colon.

The value of starting pitching is skyrocketing, especially in this offseason, where Jacob deGrom left the Mets for the Rangers on a five-year, $185 million deal that could become $222 million over six years, days before the start of the 2022 MLB Winter Meetings.

The Marlins’ abundance of reliable arms should serve them well in their mission to acquire bats to improve their lineup. The team hasn’t had a winning season in a full 162-game season since 2009 when they went 87-75; they went 31-29 in the shortened 2020 season.

A name the Marlins could look to target for their lineup is Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds. The Post’s Jon Heyman reported Saturday that Reynolds has requested a trade from Pittsburgh, but the team is not planning to deal him at the moment.

That could change very quickly if they get a nice return package for the outfielder, and the Marlins could provide one that includes a solid starting pitcher.
