Johnny Depp Jack Sparrow return hopes soar after exciting Pirates of the Caribbean 6 news

It’s been five years since Johnny Depp last starred as Captain Jack Sparrow in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie. His future in the franchise has been uncertain since domestic abuse allegations by his ex-wife Amber Heard, which he strongly denies. However, having won his libel case, fans are hopeful that Disney will bring him back and there are certainly positive signs in the latest update on the franchise’s future.

Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has had two future movies in the works. One is Pirates 6 and the other is a Margot Robbie-led spin-off. The Aussie actress recently told Vanity Fair that her movie is now “dead” adding, “I guess they don’t want to do it.”

However, Bruckheimer has now confirmed this isn’t the case, just that they want to focus on Pirates 6 first. He told Collider: “I think that that script will come forward at a certain point. We developed two different stories for Pirates and the other one’s going forward first, so that’s what we’re working on, to try to get that one made.”

The question is then, is this a movie that will involve Depp’s Jack Sparrow? The producer has had more to say.

Earlier this year, Bruckheimer was asked if Depp will be in Pirates 6. He told The Sunday Times: “Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided.” Well that’s not exactly closing the door on Jack Sparrow is it?

Then in the summer, he told Comic Book that the original team from the first movie, The Curse of the Black Pearl, are coming back. The 79-year-old said: “I’ve very excited, it’s going to be terrific. We’re just working on the screenplay. One of the original writers, Ted Elliot, is helping write it. He has a great command of the characters.”

It’s not certain that Captain Jack will feature or cameo, but given what Depp’s said about wanting to give his character a decent farewell, surely he can be persuaded? Here are some of his comments.

During his libel case, Depp said: “My feeling was that these characters should be able to have their proper goodbye, as it were. A franchise can only last for so long and there’s a way to end a franchise like that and I thought that the characters deserved to have their way out, to end the franchise on a very good note. I planned on continuing until it was time to stop.

“Captain Jack Sparrow was a character I built from the ground up and was something that I, of course, put a lot of [myself] into the character and also having worked on these films with these people and added much of myself, much of my own re-writing of the dialogue and scenes and jokes. I didn’t quite understand how, after that long relationship and quite a successful relationship certainly for Disney, that suddenly I was guilty until proven innocent.”

At the time Depp said he wouldn’t come back, but who knows? Time heals and he knows his fans are desperate for more Captain Jack.
