Two small kids among five found dead in 'domestic-related' incident inside Chicago-suburb home

A man is suspected of stabbing his wife, four-year-old and six-year-old daughters, and a relative before killing himself inside a million-dollar home in the Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove on Wednesday.

The Buffalo Grove Police Department announced the names and causes of death for the five individuals on Thursday.

Andrei Kisliak, 39; Vera Kisliak, 36; Vivian Kisliak, 6; Lilia Kisliak, 67; and Amilia Kisliak, 4, all died from ‘sharp force injuries’, police said during a press conference.

Just hours after the names were confirmed, sources told the Lake McHenry Scanner they believe Andrei stabbed the four females before killing himself.

Inside the home, officers also discovered a deceased animal.

The deaths come less than two months after Vera had filed an order of protection against her husband, court records show.

Andrei had been arrested two weeks later for violating the order, but was released on bail.

Police officers were first called to the property in the suburban village, located just about 30 miles north of Chicago, at around 11.10am Wednesday to carry out a welfare check on a woman who had not turned up to work for a scheduled shift.

Upon arrival, officers were ‘unable to make contact’ with anyone inside the home.

‘Forced entry was deemed necessary and a sweep of the home was conducted,’ the village of Buffalo Grove announced on Twitter Wednesday. During the sweep, the five deceased family members were found.

In a press conference Thursday morning, Buffalo Grove Police Department Chief Brian Budds shared the latest details on the case that has shocked the upscale village.

‘Today is a very sad day for our community as we continue to process this unthinkable event,’ the chief of police said.

Autopsies conducted on the victims by Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek determined that ‘sharp force injuries’ are the causes of death for all five victims.

‘Sharp force injuries’ are defined as ‘injuries produced by pointed objects or objects with sharp edges,’ traditionally stab wounds or chop wounds, according to Medscape.

Neighbors, however, were quick to point out the order of protection Vera had filed against her husband two months earlier.

On the same day the wife had filed the order, Andrei had also been charged with contempt of court, according to records obtained by the Chicago Tribune.

He was scheduled to appear before a judge on December 12.

In addition to the legal protection order filed in September, Andrei and Vera were in the middle of a divorce, which the couple filed for in July.

The last proceeding for the divorce was on Tuesday, held in Lake County, less than 24 hours before their bodies were discovered.

A representative from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court told the Tribune that some records pertaining to Andrei were currently unavailable and that he had multiple closed cases.

A mortgage lender linked to the family had also opened a foreclosure case on the Acacia Terrace home on November 9, stating it had not received payments since July 2020.

The first record of the Kisliak family living in the Buffalo Grove property dates back to 2015, but neighbors said they believe the family moved in about four years ago.

The nearly 6,000-square-foot home is worth an estimated $1.05 million and has six beds and six baths, according to RedFin.

Nearby homes in the suburb range in price between $600,000 and upwards of $1.3 million.

One neighbor who was hoping to contribute to the small memorial set up at the end of the driveway, told the Chicago Tribune she had called the police about Andrei’s behavior in the past.

The woman, who asked not to be identified, said she called law enforcement after seeing the man yell at his small children before leaving them at a local cafe.

She told the local outlet that he would come and go from the cafe, acting ‘hostile’ toward the young girls.

Officers arrived and talked to the father who then left with his children, she claimed.

Another neighbor who spoke with FOX 32 described the little girls as ‘so sweet’ and ‘so innocent.’

‘The older sister had a big personality. Very loud. The younger sister was very shy but so sweet,’ the neighbor told the FOX affiliate. ‘Babies. Babies. Just babies. How could anyone do this to their family?’

Michelle, a neighbor who spoke with WGN on Wednesday evening after the bodies were found, described the situation as a shock for the small ‘quiet area.’

‘We would see the kids playing about,’ Michelle said. ‘They would have friends and family gatherings. Nothing too out of the ordinary so it’s a big shock to have all this occurring, especially during this time of the year.’

The neighbor also said she had noticed police activity at the house in recent months: ‘It’s never something you want to delve into, but things like that you notice,’ she said.

Another resident in the area, Falguni Patel, said he too is in shock over the news.

‘Eighteen years. My kids grew up here, so it’s… you never see it, never seen anything like this ever,’ said Patel.

A police tent was seen outside the home into the evening as officers kept the street blocked off to pedestrian traffic.

‘Even a USPS mail truck with a post office worker was not allowed to deliver the mail in that area of the block,’ the Arlington Cardinal reported.

The matter remains under investigation by police in the area.

‘I want to thank the responding officers of the Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments for their service and dedication in handling this traumatic investigation’ Chief Budds said Thursday.

‘I also would like to thank the Lake County Major Crime Task Force along with the Lake County Coroner’s Office for their invaluable assistance with this investigation which remains active and ongoing,’ Budds continued.
