South Carolina girl Aspen Jeter missing after mom Crystal Jumper found dead

A 5-year-old girl is missing after her mother was found dead in their South Carolina home on Thanksgiving.

Authorities discovered the body of Crystal Jumper, 46, in an “advanced stage of decomposition” with a gunshot wound during a welfare check Thursday.

Her daughter, Aspen Jeter, was nowhere to be found in the Orangeburg County home.

Jumper’s family said they hadn’t heard from the mom in weeks.

Jumper’s concerned brother, Pauley Jumper, said his niece has disability that makes it difficult for her to communicate and walk.

“She’s not able to walk, she can’t talk. So just everybody pray that we get her home,” he told WIS-TV.

He said the family is unable to process Crystal’s death until they know her daughter has be found and safely returned home.

Steph Ball-Mitchell, a friend of Crystal’s, recalled the mom sending her proud pictures and videos of Aspen over the years.

Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell announced that investigators are searching for a five-year-old child reported missing from an Orangeburg residence.

“She’s just such a beautiful child,” Ball-Mitchell told WLTX. “It was really special to watch Aspen grow and change.”

The friend also stressed the importance of getting the young girl the necessary help.

“She definitely needs medical care, so we want to get her picture out there,” Ball-Mitchell said. “If anyone’s seen her, we definitely want people to call and let us know where you’ve seen her.”

Aspen’s father, Antar Jeter, is also missing, Crystal’s family told WIS-TV.

Authorities have not said whether the father is considered a suspect, but an incident report said he was living with Crystal and Aspen.

An autopsy for the mother is scheduled for later this week.
