Libbie Mugrabi, the Hamptons socialite who was arrested and charged with attacking her housekeeper earlier this week, is speaking out and claiming she’s the victim of domestic workers who were ‘glamping’ at her home.
The 43-year-old, is the ex-wife of billionaire Andy Warhol art collector David Mugrabi, and was arrested at her Sag Harbor home and charged with ‘menacing, criminal mischief and criminal possession of a weapon,’ police told the New York Post.
However, she says that while she was away from her Long Island home, the workers had taken over the place.
She added: ‘[They] were not supposed to be living there. They weren’t doing any work. They were glampin’ in the Hamptons.’
Mugrabi added that the housekeeper in question attacked her and stole pairs of designer shoes.

To add insult to injury, according to Mugrabi, she was ‘roughed up’ by local police officers.
She said that on July 31, she returned from a vacation to see the domestic workers running the house, according to the Post.
Mugrabi claimed the Latin American workers ‘should have been doing work on my house but not living in my house. The night I came home, a lady was in my guest room – she was supposed to have been let go. I went to use the bathroom, saw her, and I got scared to death.’
When she asked the housekeeper to leave, Mugrabi claims she started ‘throwing stuff at me,’ including a cell phone and ‘the bottom of a stringy mop,’ as well as a Bible.
Mugrabi said that the domestic worker was ‘screaming like a crazy person.’
She then claims she went into her bedroom, locked the door and called the housekeeper an Uber after her handyman convinced her to vacate the premises.
Mugrabi added. ‘She complained that she had no cash. I gave her $500 or $600 out of my wallet. I just wanted her to leave … She got driven to Brooklyn. It cost me $268. Plus she had my vintage ballet flats, Chanel shoes and Balenciaga shoes in her bag.’
The socialite argues that she ‘would never hit somebody. I’m not aggressive physically. I’m aggressive with my voice. Everything she said I did to her, she did to me.’
Mugrabi’s mother also claimed to have seen the housekeeper takeover when she visited in July, while her daughter was gone.
Scher said of the workers: ‘They were in the pool and the hot tub and wouldn’t even give me a cup of coffee. I thought they had a better life than I do.’
Mugrabi said she’d gotten the workers out of her home by August 9.
The fight allegedly broke out on July 31 after her housekeeper complained about money that she had been owed by Mugrabi.
Southampton Town Police said that the fight ended when Mugrabi ‘forcefully and unlawfully’ evicted the now ex-employee.
Mugrabi was released without bail following her arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court, a source told the outlet.
‘Libbie Mugrabi is a pillar of our community and a law abiding citizen,’ Marianne Bertuna, of Aidala Bertuna & Kamins, said in a statement.

‘The evidence will show that she is innocent of all these charges. We look forward to this matter being swiftly dismissed in its entirety.’
Friends of Mugrabi said she denies the charges, with one Hamptons pal huffing, ‘Libbie is innocent of the claims she is accused of.’
The mother of two, whose 13-year marriage to art world scion David Mugrabi collapsed in July 2018 after she caught him naked with another woman, is currently reinventing herself as a philanthropist and designer.
Her acrimonious divorce reportedly saw her walk away with $100 million.
Exact details of the settlement were never disclosed, and the Mugrabi family, which owns the largest private collection of Andy Warhols in the world, is worth an estimated $5 billion.
Mugrabi settled her divorce with her art collecting ex-husband in December 2020, but compared herself to the late Princess of Wales during the tumultuous split.
‘I had the same thing as her — I got married young,’ Mugrabi said in a 2021 interview with The New York Post.
‘She was told what to do and wear,’ she said.

Following the divorce, Mugrabi said she would use some of her settlement to sponsor the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, supporting their Fashion in Motion program, which was due to be axed because of cost-cutting following the pandemic.
Mugrabi told Tatler the program’s entertainment would be the ‘perfect partner’ for a divorcee post marriage.
Mugrabi said her dream for Fashion in Motion is to turn it into something similar to the annual Met Gala in New York, which raises millions for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In September 2020, it was reported that Mugrabi’s billionaire husband had stopped paying her bills resulting in the socialite not paying her rent.
Mugrabi also claimed that she had antidepressants had affected her judgement during the divorce settlement and that she had not realized that she had agreed to ‘only $79,000 a month in child support.’
Mugrabi said that she needed the full $98,000 a month she was receiving before the settlement was agreed, to keep her and her estranged husband’s children in the lifestyle to which they are accustomed.

The bitter exchanges between the pair – who got married in 2005, a year after meeting at The St Regis Hotel in Aspen, Colorado – led to the tussle being dubbed ‘the nastiest divorce in NYC.’
The pair have two children together, Mary and Joseph, who are believed to be around 15 and 13.
David’s Syrian family are worth an estimated $5 billion and are legends in the art world, with the world’s largest private collection of works by Andy Warhol.
