Dustin Poirier confronted Michael Chandler about illegally ‘fish-hooking’ him after their UFC 281 clash. 

‘Diamond’ won a hugely entertaining bout but appeared irate in the aftermath, exchanging words with his American compatriot. 

Joe Rogan then interviewed him in the octagon and asked what the nature of the discussion was.

Poirier then replied: ‘He had his fingers in my mouth and lifted/yanked up, that’s what I was complaining about to the referee.’ 

‘Fish-hooking’ is the term given to such an action and is banned in the UFC. 

Chandler appeared to be doing so while on top of Poirier, lifting the head in an attempt to lock in a rear-naked choke. 

Plenty of fans took to social media to post grabs of the incident but Chandler denied it was intentional.

In his post-fight press conference, the lightweight admitted his fingers went into Poirier’s mouth but it was accidental. 

It seemed the pair were able to move past the incident and they had a respectful conversation in the octagon. 

Poirier admitted he was scared to fight Chandler but admitted that fear is what drove him on to succeed. 

The pair put on one of the fights of the night and are expected to take home performance bonuses.
