Queen Rania demands 'Arabic dish on the table' at home and bans children from 'fast food'

Queen Rania, 52, shared that after coming home from university, there’s one particular dish her children crave – the Arabic dish, mansaf. The Jordanian royal, who has four children, opened up about the importance of teaching families about their local cuisine, as she spoke with the team behind a home-grown food app back in 2020.

Queen Rania met the founder of Bilforon, a platform that allows home cooks to sell meals online.

Mohammad Albattikhi launched the app in 2016, to provide talented chefs with a platform to start their own businesses and reach customers from their own kitchens.

Bilforon also started offering grocery delivery services as Jordan introduced restrictions on movement during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Couldn’t get enough of my conversation today with the talented cooks working with Bilforon – and I can’t wait to try their dishes!” Queen Rania said of the meeting on Instagram, as she shared an image from the day.

“Hats off to the team behind this innovative app making it easy for women to market and sell their delicious homemade meals online.”

Queen Rania also shared a number of clips from her conversation with Bilforon chefs on her Instagram Stories, where she revealed her family’s fondness for mansaf.

“Through your efforts you’re doing something that I think is very important – that our children stay connected to the Arabic kitchen, the Jordanian kitchen,” she said.

“The first thing my kids want when they come back from university is a mansaf. They got used to it.”

Fitness expert Namita Nayyar told Women’s Fitness that to stay fit, the Queen “follows the GI diet” and is a “keen runner”.

She added: “The glycemic index has been a popular weight loss tool to help dieters lose weight. Also referred to as the glycemic index diet, GI diet, and low glycemic diet, it is the basis for many popular diet plans.”

The GI diet is a popular weight loss tool that classifies food depending on its Glycemic Index or how blood sugar levels rise after you eat a small portion of carbohydrates.

The eating plan, also known as the low glycemic diet, is based on how foods affect your blood sugar level. The system assigns a number from one to 100 to carbohydrate-containing foods according to how much each food increases blood sugar.

If foods are rated higher than 70 they are classified as being high, with 100 being pure glucose. Foods are moderate if they rank between 56 and 69, or low less than 55. It takes into account the foods you eat but also the way you prepare them. Low GI diets promote fat loss and have been associated with a reduction in weight and cholesterol.

Dietitian Juliette Kellow commented: “The diet plan is really simple and is sure to get results. You’ll love the GI plan if you want to lose weight by following a balanced, healthy diet without cutting out major groups of food or severely restricting what you eat.”

With the Low GI diet, nothing is strictly banned, but some foods are not recommended including bread, pasta, breakfast cereals or noodles. Queen Rania reportedly eliminated these flour dishes from her diet, so she does not eat bread and pasta.

However, she allows herself a treat every now and then and loves burgers, which King Abdullah reportedly prepares at home on the weekends. The beautiful royal also adores dark chocolate, as she herself has confessed.
