Meghan Markle & Kate Middleton wore near identical white suits – but one was more daring

Earlier this year, Meghan Markle stepped out wearing an oversized, white suit when attending the Invictus Games Reception in The Hague, Netherlands. The outfit was extremely fashionable; layers of intricate gold jewellery, a high-end designer bag and coat, as well as no top underneath the jacket. Kate Middleton, on the other hand, has also worn a white suit – in fact, she has worn the same white suit three times this year, but for each occasion, she switched the outfit up a little to refresh the look.

Meghan made a grand entrance to the Invictus Games in April in a perfectly tailored white suit.

The blazer and trousers are by designer Valentino and cost £3,300 before going on sale.

The double-breasted wool-twill blazer is “tailored with sharp notch lapels” and is “framed by neat darts” that “cinch in the waist for a classic silhouette”.

The wool-tailored trousers, on the other hand, are “cut from wool crepe” and had “pintucked creases down the wide legs”.

Unlike Kate, Meghan chose to wear nothing underneath the oversized blazer.

For accessories, Meghan chose Valentino’s Garavani One Stud Leather Shoulder Bag in ivory.

The bag was introduced for S/S22 and is “defined by its envelope silhouette and statement Rockstud embellishment at the front, an iconic house motif”.

The bag is “crafted from soft leather in Italy” and “thanks to its adjustable chain-link strap” it can be worn across the body or shoulder – Meghan chose to either carry the bag in her hand or hold it by the chain strap.

In terms of shoes, the Duke of Sussex re-wore her wedding reception shoes, the Aquazzura Shiver White heels which were custom-made from silky satin with a mesh overlay.

The soles are painted in baby blue as a nod to the ‘something old, something new, something blue’ wedding tradition.

Meghan is known for choosing beautifully delicate pieces of jewellery and this appearance was no exception; the royal chose a hand chain which was crossed around her wedding finger.

She also wore Princess Diana’s Gold Cartier Tank Française Watch, and Sophie Lis’ Love Pendant.

Kate, on the other hand, stepped out in March wearing a white suit when visiting Shortwood Teacher’s College in Kingston, Jamaica during her and Prince William’s Caribbean Tour.

The blazer and trousers are by British designer Alexander McQueen and the “crêpe blazer is a study in modern tailoring”, featuring “round edges on an otherwise classic silhouette”.

The trousers are high-waisted and tailored, with belt loops, a concealed front fastening, a rear pocket and cropped length.

The blazer is priced at £1030 and the trousers £590.

Underneath the jacket, Kate chose Ridley London’s Alicia Top with Tie Neck in tangerine silk.

The blouse is elegant but relaxed, is made from silk crepe de chines, and features a 3/4 sleeve with an elasticated frilled cuff.

She paired the orange blouse with an orange handbag – Dayne Taylor’s Vintage 1960s Raffia Beaded Bag, which costs £229.

In terms of shoes, Kate chose Jimmy Choo’s Romy 85 pumps in white, which cost £550.

Then, in June, to mark Windrush Day, Kate wore the white suit again for the unveiling of the National Windrush Monument at Waterloo Station.

This time, however, the Princess of Wales chose a pair of Alexnder McQueen’s wide-leg trousers and a white tank top underneath the blazer.

She switched up the accessories too, opting for a Mulberry Amberley Small Crossbody Bag in white, and a pair of Gianvito Rossi 105 white leather pumps, which cost £626.

Two months later, when attending the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham alongside Prince William and Princess Charlotte, Kate wore the white Alexander McQueen suit again.

This time, she paired the jacket with the cropped tailored trousers and wore a white and silver belt and a white tank top tucked in.

On her feet were a pair of Camilla Elphick Alicia Slingback Flats in taupe with black contrast toe – these shoes are priced at £195.
