Jennifer Tilly on why she loves filming sex scenes: It’s a ‘free pass’

Jennifer Tilly certainly feels like she’s in her element while filming sex scenes for the silver screen.

In fact, the “Bride of Chucky” star, loves to get intimate on set and is full of confidence during sensitive shoots.

In a recent interview with Fox News, the Oscar-nominated actress, 64, revealed how she gets herself through those seemingly uncomfortable scenes.

The scream queen noted, “You know, the thing is all the actors say, ‘Oh, the kissing scenes are awful. The sex scenes are so uncomfortable. Everyone’s so uncomfortable. I hate it. Hate every minute of it.’

“But the secret is a lot of actors like doing sex scenes or love scenes. They just feel like they’re supposed to say that. ‘Oh, it’s all technical. Like, whose nose goes where? And the cameras are right in your face,’ ” she said.

The Canadian native continued, “But it’s … an out-of-body experience. Because you’re not yourself. You’re the character that’s in love with the other character. And so, it’s really almost like a free pass to make out with somebody that’s not your boyfriend.”

“It’s escapism,” Tilly stated. “Who doesn’t love that? And especially right now.”

Tilly currently stars in the USA-SYFY show “Chucky” as Tiffany Valentine, a role she first took on in 1998’s “Bride of Chucky.” The series, now in its second season, is based on the “Child’s Play” horror franchise that follows a possessed kid’s doll named Chucky.

Tilly has since appeared in three additional films prior to the television series. She explained how creator Don Mancini wrote many kissing scenes for her in the series. “I’m like so happy because I hardly ever get those parts anymore,” she joked.

Of playing Valentine, she said she “had so much fun” embodying the character.

“I never thought that there was going to be any more Tiffany Valentine because she dies horrifically [in 1998’s ‘Bride of Chucky’] … But Tiffany is such a fun character because she’s very complicated,” Tilly recalled.

“She’s a murderer, but she has a conscience. And every once in a while, Don will write in one of those scenes that are so hard for me where I have to cry, but I cry, and I feel like a fabulous actress,” Tilly said. “She’s really delusional and self-centered and narcissistic.”

However, Tilly wasn’t too keen on being a part of the franchise when she was first offered the role decades ago. She told Page Six last year that she was initially hesitant and felt the role was beneath her.

“I said, ‘A Chucky movie?! I am not doing a Chucky movie!,’ ” she said. “Because I just came off of ‘Bullets Over Broadway,’ an Oscar nomination, and I thought I was gonna be like Dame Judi Dench or something. Of course they were offering me a lot of money.”
