Fake £20 notes featuring Jesus start appearing around Chichester

A man in the village of Birdham, in Chichester, found two fake £20 notes with a picture of Jesus Christ's face on it.

A message reading ‘don’t be fooled, Jesus is the real thing’ is written in the bottom corner

There isn’t much more exciting than finding stray cash on the street.

And let’s be honest, who actually tries to find the person who dropped it?

To be fair to Raymond Brody, he did look around for the original owner after spotting a purple note on the floor while walking his dog near Chichester.

But ‘survival of the fittest’ soon kicked in and he pocketed the twenty to stick on his energy meter.

When he got home, however, Raymond was ‘sick to his stomach’ to find he had picked up a fake, featuring a picture of Jesus Christ.

‘Bank of Heaven’ was written across the top, along with the message: ‘Don’t be fooled, Jesus is the real thing.’

Raymond told Sussex World: ‘It’s bad enough that someone thinks it’s a good idea to litter in the first place but in today’s economic crisis £20 on the floor can mean feeding a family for a week.

‘To instil false hope in them like this is horribly hideous.’

As bizarre as Raymond’s experience was, it somehow happened to him for a second time.

He found the exact same note last week while another walk with his dog.

Raymond said: ‘I was very tempted to write on it “stop breaking the law” and insert it into the church donation box but thought the better of it.’

He feels the fake notes are particularly cruel during the cost of living crisis because ‘£20 can go a long way when you are already struggling’.
