Liz Truss and Danish Prime Minister agree Nord Stream pipe damage is 'act of sabotage'

Liz Truss and the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen have agreed that the damage to the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines were an “clearly an act of sabotage”. The pipelines are currently leaking natural gas into the Baltic Sea near Denmark and Sweden.

The two Prime Ministers agreed that safety in the Baltic Sea was in “everyone’s interest” and welcomed increased support through an expeditionary force.

Ms Truss also offered the UK’s support in the ongoing investigation into the leaks.

Four leaks have been detected in the pipelines, two in Sweden’s exclusive economic zone while the other two are in Danish waters.

NATO and the EU have called the damage, first discovered on Monday, September 26, an act of sabotage.

Bjorn Lund, a seismologist with Uppsala University, told broadcaster SVT: “There is no doubt that these were explosions.”

In response, Norway has vowed that its military will be more visible around energy infrastructure including oil and gas installations.
