Elton John shares rare insight into dancing with Queen as he ‘joins world’ in mourning

Musician Sir Elton John, 75, gave a rare insight into his relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth II in view of his 4.2 million Instagram followers today. He revealed that they had once danced together in a heartfelt post following her funeral this morning.

The star explained that a lot of his favourite memories with the late monarch had happened “out of the public eye”.

In a post liked by over 60,000 people, he shared a black and white picture of himself meeting the Queen in his youth for the Queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.

For comparison, he then posted another throwback snap of himself meeting the Queen once more in 2012 for her Diamond Jubilee Concert.

Beside the photographs, he wrote: “Today I’ll be joining the rest of the world in remembering Her Majesty The Queen.

He told his audience: “She was an inspiring presence to be around… she was fantastic.

“She led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace and decency and a genuine caring warmth.

“I’m 75 and she’s been with me all my life and I feel very sad that she won’t be with me anymore, but I’m glad she’s at peace, and I’m glad she’s at rest and she deserves it.

“She worked bloody hard. I send my love to her family. She’ll be missed… but we’ll celebrate her life tonight with you, OK?”
