Princess Anne dons earrings in tribute to Queen as she accompanies coffin on final journey

Princess Anne has been every inch the devoted daughter since her mother Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle on Thursday, September 8. Today Anne was present as the Queen’s coffin was moved from rest at St Giles’ Cathedral to begin the journey to London.

Anne donned a smart black shift dress for the sad occasion, which she paired with sheer tights and a pair of black pumps.

Pinned to her dress was a demure brooch, and around her neck was a patterned silk scarf.

A simple black fascinator topped off her outfit, and her earrings paid a subtle tribute to both of her late parents.

Anne has worn the Grima Pearl Earrings on countless occasions over the years, including several key life events.

A gift from her parents, Princess Anne notably wore the stunning gems for her father’s poignant funeral at Windsor Castle last year.

Zack Stone of jewellery experts Steven Stone previously said: “Designed by Andrew Grima, Princess Anne’s Grima Pearl Earrings constitute gold, pearl, and diamonds in a modern leaf design.

“Gifted to her by the Queen and Prince Philip in the late 1960s, the earrings are one of Princess Anne’s longest-serving pieces of jewellery and have huge sentimental value.

“Worn frequently at public appearances, the Princess most notably wore them on her first royal tour as an adult, in Australia when she was with her mother at just 19 years old, to her wedding to Timothy Laurence in 1992 and to Prince Phillip’s funeral in 2021.

“The retail price for a pair of earrings like Princess Anne’s would be at the top end of £3,000.”

Princess Anne has received significant praise in recent days for her unwavering dedication to her late mother.

At St Giles’ Cathedral on Monday, Anne made history as the first female royal ever to take part in the Vigil of the Princes.

Alongside King Charles III, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward, Anne quietly reflected as she stood guard in front of her mother’s coffin.

“I can’t imagine the depths of her grief, and yet she’s been so stoic as she accompanies her mother’s coffin to its final resting place.”

The Queen’s coffin will be flown from Edinburgh Airport to London this evening, where it will rest at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen’s coffin will then lie in state from 5pm on Wednesday at Westminster Hall until the state funeral is held on Monday, September 19.

Princess Anne is likely to take part in another vigil with other members of the Royal Family during this time.
