The Emmys royally messed up.
While the ceremony got emotional with poignant tributes to late stars in the In Memoriam section, the late Queen Elizabeth II was left out of the segment Monday night.
Fans immediately took to Twitter calling out the Television Academy for not honoring the late monarch, who died just last week.
“I honestly did want to see The Queen in that in memoriam,” one fan wrote.
“Wow so they’re just gonna leave Queen Elizabeth out of the Emmys In Memoriam?” chimed in another. “I’m almost surprised they didn’t get The Queen into the In Memoriam #Emmys,” someone else said.
“Shouldn’t Queen Elizabeth be included in the #Emmys2022 in memoriam?” asked another.
“The in memoriam section didn’t feature Queen Elizabeth, even after all she’s done for Olivia Colman,” added another.
Queen Elizabeth II was portrayed in “The Crown,” which scored 63 nominations and 21 wins over the royal drama’s seasons; both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman have won awards for their portrayals of her. However, the Netflix show, which halted production of the show “as a mark of respect” for the late monarch, was not up for any awards in 2022.
However, some didn’t care she was left out.
“I don’t know if I agree with the tweeter who said that Queen Elizabeth should have been featured during the #Emmys ‘In Memoriam’ segment. I mean her cameo on “Gilligan’s Island” was funny and she did do that year on SNL but she was never really a major TV star,” one jokester said.
The royal family announced Queen Elizabeth, who was 96, died Sept. 8 at Balmoral Castle, her beloved summer residence in Scotland.
King Charles III, 73, immediately took over her role as Head of State, while grieving his beloved mother.
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty, The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family,” he said in a statement.
“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world,” he added.
After news of her passing last week, tributes from all over the world came pouring in, including world leaders offering their condolences, celebrities paying their respects and segments on late-night shows.
Several international monuments were also turned into memorials for the monarch, including the New York Stock Exchange and a Times Square billboard.
Shockingly, even American sports honored the queen with special tributes. The Yankees showed her picture on the scoreboard in The Bronx during a game last week and the US Open held a moment of silence before the women’s singles semifinals. The NFL also observed a moment of silence before its season opener.
Several events in the UK planned for the forthcoming days were also put off, including the BMW PGA Championship and some events planned for London Fashion Week.
Meghan Markle — who was by Prince Harry’s side while honoring the queen over the weekend, and seemingly reconciled with Prince William and Kate Middleton after a supposed feud — also put her podcast on hold for the mourning period.
