Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde speak about the online 'cruelty' they suffer

‘It’s difficult to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter’: Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde speak about the online ‘cruelty’ they suffer in their first joint interview

They first met on the set of their film Don’t Worry Darling back in September 2020 and stepped out as a couple while attending a wedding together in January 2021.

And now, almost two years later, Harry Styles and Olivia Wilde have given their first joint interview with Rolling Stone UK.

In a rare insight into their relationship, the couple reflected on their experience with Harry’s fandom, with the former One Direction star, 28, admitting he finds the online cruelty from some fans ‘difficult’.

When asked in the interview about the ‘small, toxic corners of the internet’ that might be treating the people closest to him poorly, he responded: ‘That obviously doesn’t make me feel good.’

Touching on the fan craze, Harry admitted he wonders how to respond when the noise gets too loud, but takes comfort in knowing his whole fandom is not like that.

He said: ‘It’s obviously a difficult feeling to feel like being close to me means you’re at the ransom of a corner of Twitter or something.

‘I just wanted to sing, I didn’t want to get into it if I was going to hurt people like that.’

But reflecting on his fan base, Olivia, 38, insisted that the majority of the pop star’s followers stand for kindness.

She told the magazine as part of her beau’s global cover shoot: ‘What I don’t understand about the cruelty you’re referencing is that that kind of toxic negativity is the antithesis of Harry, and everything he puts out there.

‘I don’t personally believe the hateful energy defines his fan base at all, the majority of them are true champions of kindness.’

Harry, who has previously dated a slew of celebrity girlfriends, has allegedly never been so serious about anyone before, The Sun previously reported.

A source said: ‘This looked like quite a showbizzy thing at first, two glamorous people hooking up but now it’s obviously a lot more than that.

‘They held back a bit at first but now that things are more settled the time was right to do the next thing.’
