Marseille have competed the season-long loan signing of Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares. 

The 22-year-old joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer of 2021 and played 28 times for The Gunners last season, scoring once and notching-up two assists for the club. 

He’ll join fellow former Arsenal stars Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac at the the French club. 

Marseille announced his arrival in bizarre fashion, posting a space-themed video to their Twitter account with Star Wars like caption, referring to Tavares as ‘Episode VII He has landed’.

The loan deal will not include an option for Igor Tudor’s side to purchase Tavares, and the French club will pay his wages throughout the loan spell. 

The Portuguese played in every game during the club’s run to the EFL Cup semi-finals last season, but was left on the bench in The Gunners’ exit at the hands of Liverpool.
