  • Parramatta star Mitchell Moses, 27, was the subject of death threats this week
  • Threats were directed at relative of Moses, who then informed the Eels halfback
  • NRL then told NSW police, Moses given escort to and from CommBank Stadium
  • Speaking on Triple M on Saturday, Moses described situation as ‘pretty scary’

Parramatta star Mitchell Moses was forced to enter CommBank Stadium escorted by riot police on Friday after he was the subject of death threats this week.

The Eels beat the Warriors 28-18 to stay in touch of the NRL top four – but the halfback would have been forgiven if was distracted when conducting a post match interview where he was shadowed by security.

Moses arrived and left the venue via a secret tunnel, with the Sydney Morning Herald reporting the death threat was made to one of his relatives.

It was then relayed to the playmaker and later reported to the NRL.

The NRL subsequently advised NSW police, who organised a personal escort for an understandably rattled Moses.

Officials at the ground in Sydney’s west also kept a close eye on the crowd on Friday night to ensure Moses wasn’t in danger when on the field.

‘It’s a pretty scary thing,’ Moses told Triple M on Saturday.

‘I think it was worse because [the] contact was to my family. When people start to get into your family, it’s harder.’

Some of Moses’ relatives include former Balmain Tigers hooker Benny Elias and controversial player agent Isaac Moses.

Moses went onto state it was a ‘couple of text messages and phone calls’ and that the contact was made to a family member.

Despite the death threat to a relative, Moses performed strongly for the Eels in their 28-18 win over the Warriors

‘To see them in that situation is not good for any person, let alone a footballer,’ he added.

All fans who entered the stadium on Friday were subjected to searches by hand-held metal detectors.

The common process is only for bags to be checked by security.

A highly touted junior, Moses made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in 2014.

He defected to Parramatta in 2017 and is a key figure as the Eels look to end their premiership drought stretching back to 1986.
