KISS get punted from holding concert in North Queensland – thanks to Cowboys' stellar form

KISS get barred from holding their last ever Australian concert in North Queensland – and fans of the rock legends can blame the Cowboys’ stellar run of form this year

  • Rock legends KISS were due to perform farewell tour in Townsville in September
  • Schedule conflict with North Queensland Cowboys sees them take precedence
  • Many footy fans tipped Cowboys to struggle this season, sitting in second spot
  • Cowboys likely to host a NRL final on September 10 if they finish in the top four

The unexpected stellar form of the North Queensland Cowboys this season has resulted in the concert of US rock legends KISS being shifted from Townsville to the Gold Coast.

Original founding members Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons were due to belt out a host of their iconic tunes at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on September 10 – but with Todd Payten’s men seemingly finals-bound in the NRL, the band’s farewell tour will now be staged on the Glitter Strip at Robina.

Promoter Andrew McManus said the scheduling conflict was disappointing, before confirming the concert will be shifted to CBus Super Stadium – ironically the home of the struggling Gold Coast Titans.

‘Even if the Cowboys had a September 17 playoff game at home, I had to move the September 10 concert,’ he said. ‘By the time I chop up the field with the stage and everything, the NRL won’t allow it.

‘We congratulate the Cowboys on their success – but I (now) have to shift the last ever show by KISS on Australian soil out of Townsville to the Gold Coast.’

The Cowboys, who sit in second spot on the NRL ladder after 16 rounds, take precedence as they are the stadium’s anchor tennants.

Many footy experts anticipated a lean year for Payten’s new-look side, with a top four finish a pipedream in the eyes of many.

But the likes of Chad Townsend, Jason Taumalolo and Jeremiah Nanai have been brilliant, as the Cowboys continue to turn heads.

Music fans who purchased tickets for the KISS concert in Townsville will be refunded.

Tickets for the new Gold Coast show – with a capacity for 15,000 fans – will go on sale next week, starting at $95.

Support acts include Australian rockers Wolfmother and Tumbleweed.

KISS are one of the biggest-selling rock bands of all time, with more than 100 million album sales.

Simmons and Stanley’s high-energy performances, elaborate costumes and face paint have made the duo rock gods in the eyes of countless fans.

Their smash hits include the iconic ‘I was made for loving you’ and ‘God gave rock and roll to you.’
