Two men were badly injured after they tried making s’mores with rubbing alcohol at Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop store in the upscale Hamptons village of Sag Harbor.

The Hollywood star’s wellness store was hosting an event June 25 when two caterers were badly burned after stone candle holders filled with rubbing alcohol exploded, Sag Harbor Village Chief of Police Austin J. McGuire told DailyMail.com.

One of the men had to be life-flighted to hospital, while the other was rushed to hospital with bad burns.

The fireball is said to have erupted while smores were being toasted at Gwyneth’s lifestyle store in the smart enclave – although there’s no suggestion the incident was the result of one of her wacky new trends, including vagina-scented candles.

‘Nothings ever new, but this one takes the cake,’ McGuire said. ‘I’ve never seen anything like this in 26 years.’

McGuire was notified that eventgoers were roasting marshmallows over the candleholders when the incident occurred – a method the event planners suggested.

‘Probably tasted pretty disgusting,’ he added in response to the method.

Portable s’mores kits promoted online have shown people toasting marshmallows over a small flame produced by a tin of fuel, although it is unclear if this is what inspired the horror blast.

The fire ignited when one of the workers added more rubbing alcohol to the candle holders before the flame was fully out. A store fire extinguisher was used to put out the fire that backfired on the men.

One of the victims suffered from facial burns and was immediately transported to a local hospital. The other victim suffers from more severe injuries after the back of his head, back, and neck was burned.

He had to be transported by helicopter to a trauma center. Both victims survived the accident but the status of their conditions remains unknown.

A representative from Paltrow’s store responded to the incident claiming ‘the information about rubbing alcohol and candles is factually incorrect.’ It was further claimed that candles were not involved in the fire.

‘There was an accidental fire in connection with a s’mores station at the goop store recently. We are wishing a speedy recovery to the two injured parties and are grateful there were no additional injuries. No candles were in use at the time of the accidental fire,’ a Goop representative said.

Goop declined to respond to how the fire ignited.

It’s unclear what started the fire or if candles were used in the incident. However, Goop’s candles that range between $36 to $86 have caused some buyers unpleasant experiences.

Paltrow’s company was sued for more than $5 million in damages last year when a Texas man claimed one of the infamous $75 candle exploded in his home hours after he lit it for the first time.

Coby Watson alleges that the candle he purchased in January 2021 suddenly became ‘engulfed in high flames’ before ‘exploding’ and leaving his room ‘filled with smoke.’

In the legal documents, Watson notes that the candle comes with a warning that it should not be burned ‘for more than two hours at a time’ – and admits that his was lit for ‘an estimated three hours or less’ when it allegedly ‘exploded.’

However, Watson and his legal team argue that the warning fails to address what will occur if the candle is lit for a longer period of time.

A Goop representative responded to Watson’s claims, insisting that his lawsuit is nothing but a ‘frivolous… attempt to secure an outsized payout.’

Month’s prior,  another woman in London, Jody Thompson, claimed her Goop candle ‘exploded’ in her living room and sparked an ‘inferno.’

‘The candle exploded and emitted huge flames, with bits flying everywhere,’ she told The Sun at the time.

Paltrow began her line of candles back in January 2020 and eventually debuted many others.
