Ukraine LIVE: Putin attack dog lets slip Russia's real aims in Ukraine – not about Donbas

A tweet by a Kherson local shows cars queuing up to leave the region.

Oksana Hliebushkina says: “This is how people try to leave the occupied Kherson region. Hundreds of cars in line.

“Previously, they had to wait hours in the fields for permission to leave, now they have to wait for several days, because the occupiers release no more than 80 cars per day and only once a day.”

Ukraine on Friday warned residents in southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia to evacuate as it prepares to launch a counteroffensive to retake the area.

Both regions were occupied by Russian troops in late February after they crossed the bridge from Kremlin-annexed Crimea.

Iryna Vereshchuk, the deputy prime minister for the ministry of reintegration of temporarily occupied territories, urged Ukrainians in the occupied territories to leave by “all means possible”.

She said: “You must look for a way to leave because our armed forces will de-occupy. There will be a huge battle. I don’t want to scare anyone, everyone understands everything anyway.”
