A newborn baby’s ear was nearly cut off after the doctor who delivered him via C-section opted to use three cellphones for lighting following a power outage at a hospital in Mexico.
Karla Urizandi, 19, gave birth to Juan Adriel Solis on June 6 at Mexicali International Specialties Clinic in Mexicali, Baja California, after the medical facility lost power for about 26 minutes.
Urizandi checked in at 11am and was transferred to the delivery room at 12:40pm.
The power went out around 12:48pm and the backup generator reportedly was not activated.
The teenager recalled the anesthesia had already been applied when the lights suddenly went out.

Her gynecologist was present along with the obstetrician, Dr. David Santoyo, when another doctor, whose name she did not know, elected to proceed with the delivery through the scheduled cesarean section.
‘With three cell phones pointed at my belly, they begin to perform a cesarean section. I told him no, I don’t want to die. In reality, I scared me a lot,’ Urizandi said in a TikTok video.
Urizandi said she ‘was very scared’ as Santoyo performed the surgical procedure before Solis’ left ear was cut as they attempted to remove an hemangioma – a vascular birthmark – which caused the baby’s head to swell up.
‘After a few minutes I hear my baby cry,’ Urizandi said as she looked back on the frightening delivery. ‘I think that they are going to put him aside, no. More time passes and I ask him, ‘And the baby?’

A video recorded by one of the physician’s showed a doctor holding the baby and placing him over a blanket as he cried aloud.
Urizandi said she did not learn of her son’s injuries until her husband, Juan Solis, walked into her and gave her the terrible news.
‘I was really waiting for a doctor or someone to come in and give me an explanation, but it wasn’t like that. At no time did they arrive or explain anything to me,’ she said.
Urizandi and her husband filed an incident report with Baja California Attorney General’s Office, accusing the medical facility and doctors of malpractice.
The family is home with their child, who is recovering from the frightening accident.
