Newcastle have been looking for quality competition for Martin Dubravka and have discussed Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, Alphonse Areola and Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Their preference has been to strike either a loan or cheaper initial fee to fall in line with their FFP restrictions.

Newcastle’s priorities have also lay elsewhere with talks ongoing over Hugo Ekitike’s move from Reims and Sven Botman at Lille.

Pope has been one of the outstanding performers in the Premier League over recent seasons despite Burnley’s fall into the Championship. The main criticism has been about the quality of Pope’s distribution when using his feet.

However, Newcastle staff believe that can be improved and are discussing the finances and merits of bringing him in over other targets.

Henderson is leaning towards agreement with Nottingham Forest while Areola is eager to stay in London with West Ham. Kepa has interest from Lazio and clubs in Spain.
