Resident Evil Village DLC is Called Shadows of Rose, Comes Out Oct. 28

It’s been more than a year since Resident Evil Village brought us on a dark journey and introduced the beloved Lady Dimitrescu on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC, so we’re overdue for another helping. It’s coming Oct. 28 in the form of downloadable content Shadows of Rose, developer Capcom revealed in its livestreamed showcase Monday.

Shadows of Rose, which is part of the game’s wider Winters Expansion, follows Rose Winters, the daughter of Village protagonist Ethan, and takes place years after the main game’s ending

Unlike the launch version of the main game, Shadows of Rose will be playable in third person. The expansion will add a third person mode to the main Village campaign, so you’ll be able to see Ethan’s back as you play.

The update will also add villains Lady Dimitrescu and Karl Heisenberg to the Mercenaries time attack mode, along with hero Chris Redfield. If you don’t own Village already, the Winters Expansion will be bundled with a new Gold Edition.

“Resident Evil Village is a slick, atmospheric addition to the franchise, and it bookends the story started in Resident Evil 7 beautifully,” I wrote in CNET’s review of the main game last year. “Every area is dripping with dark personality and it’s filled with memorable characters, while fun combat and a satisfying upgrade system keep things fresh throughout your adventure.”

Multiplayer spinoff called RE:Verse, which lets you battle it out as classic characters like Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, will also come out Oct. 28. It was originally due to come out alongside Village last year, but got delayed.

The Resident Evil 2 remake, the Resident Evil 3 remake and Resident Evil 7 also got PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades on Monday. All three add ray tracing, high frame rate and 3D audio, along haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support for the PS5’s DualSense.

We’re also getting a remake of classic Resident Evil 4, which comes out March 24, 2023, and the showcase gave us another glimpse at that.
