Manchester United and Bayern Munich 'interested in Inter Milan's highly-rated Denzel Dumfries'

Manchester United and Bayern Munich ‘are interested in highly-rated Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries’, with the Italian giants open to selling him if it means they can keep Tottenham target Alessandro Bastoni

  • Denzel Dumfries is of high interest to Manchester United and Bayern Munich
  • The Dutch right-back, 26, currently plays for Italian giants Inter Milan
  • Inter are open to selling the player if they can keep hold of Alessandro Bastoni
  • The Italian centre back has been heavily linked with a move away from Milan
  • Bayern have already signed a right-back, while Erik ten Hag is starting his rebuild

Manchester United and Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in singing Inter Milan’s highly-rated right-back Denzel Dumfries this summer.

Dutch defender Dumfries enjoyed a hugely successful season in Milan, scoring five goals and assisting seven more since arriving for £12.3million from PSV last year.

Though Inter have already lost Ivan Perisic on a free transfer to Tottenham this summer, they are open to selling Dumfries if it means they can retain the services of  Italian defender Alessandro Bastoni, according to Calciomercato.

Inter have a history of letting top quality right-backs go in recent years, having allowed Achraf Hakimi to leave for PSG for £59.85m last summer and failing to make Joao Cancelo’s successful loan spell from Valencia permanent in 2018.

Calciomercato report that Inter may look to the likes of Lazio’s Manuel Lazzarri, Juventus’ Juan Cuadrado, or Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian right back Dodo to replace Dumfries, although they may face competition for the latter from Fiorentina.

And with Dumfries under contract at the Italian giants until June 2025, they look likely to at least recoup the fee they spent on the player a year ago.

The prospect of being part of Erik ten Hag’s hugely anticipated Manchester United rebuild is one that few young Dutch players would likely be able to say no to, and United are surely set to offer lucrative enough deals that no player would want to turn them down.

Bundesliga champions Bayern on the other hand have recently confirmed the free transfer signing of Ajax’s Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui, having won the title for the tenth season in a row, so it is less clear where Dumfries may fit in their plans.

Regardless, it is clear that the priority for the Serie A runners up is keeping Bastoni on their books amid heavy interest in his services from across Europe’s elite.

The Italian centre-back has become one of Spurs’ top transfer targets in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte knowing the player well from their time at Inter Milan together two years ago.

Speaking to Football Italia, Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti revealed: ‘He [Bastoni] is certainly a big fan of the team he plays for, so he will happily remain at Inter.

‘However, he is also a professional. This is football and he has to adjust. It’s clear he is very happy to play for Inter and feels this jersey like a tattoo on his skin.’
