The first trailer for Tom Cruise’s next Mission: Impossible movie – titled Dead Reckoning, Part One – was released early on Monday morning.
The heart-stopping, high speed clip from director Christopher McQuarrie showed plenty of action scenes with the Hollywood actor, whose film Top Gun: Maverick is set to open in only a matter of days.
Cruise performs some of the most daring stunts of his career, like a chase scene on top of a moving train, in this MI film, his seventh so far.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be released in theaters on July 14, 2023.

Cruise stars as special agent Ethan Hunt who works for the Impossible Missions Force (IMF).
Also returning to the sequel are Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby.
Henry Czerny, who appeared in the original 1996 Mission Impossible as IMF director Eugene Kittridge, is also back.
The newcomers are Hayley Atwell as Grace and Esai Morales as the movie’s main villain.
Dead Reckoning is the seventh entry in the spy thriller series.

Cruise takes pride in performing almost all of his movie stunts.
And this sequel is packed with them.
Some of the highlights include s shoot out during a terrifying sand storm as Cruise tries to ride away on horseback.
There is also a physical fight with plenty of fists flying inside a nightclub, where naked women dance on table tops.

There is a chase and a desperate attempt not to fall off a moving train.
And Cruise speeds around a European town in a tiny yellow car that can barely keep its wheels on the road.
One of the best stunts is seeing Tom ride his motorcycle off a cliff and falling with his parachute on his back which ends the clip.
And then there is the evil that lurks.
‘Your days of fighting for the so-called greater good are over,’ says Czerny, who played the IMF director Eugene Kittridge in a previous MI film.
‘This is our chance to control the truth. The concepts of right and wrong for everyone for centuries to come. You’re fighting to save an ideal that doesn’t exist, never did. You need to pick a side.’

The very first look at MI:7 came during Paramount’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas in late April.
The 59-year-old action star was seen at the event in a pre-recorded message filmed on a red airplane from the South Africa set of Mission: Impossible 8.
Then a trailer for the sequel was shared, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the message, Cruise – the ex of Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes – was on top of a red biplane.
‘Hey everyone,’ Cruise said, his voice hard to hear over to the rushing wind. ‘Wish I could be there with you. I’m sorry for the extra noise. As you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission: Impossible.’

That sure is a close call: Cruise’s Hunt helps a woman from falling off the train and onto the tracks

Then director McQuarrie then flies into frame in a yellow plane as he tells Cruise it’s time to get back to work.
This comes after a tense time for Cruise and Paramount Pictures.
Cruise was said to have ‘lawyered up’ amid a battle with Paramount over the studio’s planned release strategy for Mission Impossible: 7.
According to an expose published by The Hollywood Reporter, he remains opposed to Paramount’s plan for a 45-day theatrical window before streaming on Paramount+ instead of a traditional three-month run.
THR claims Cruise was ‘infuriated’ with the decision and promptly called his lawyers, as language in the actor’s contract is said to have stipulated that the release be rolled out in a similar fashion to previous films.

‘For [Cruise], 45 days is like going day-and-date,’ a studio source told THR.
‘Day-and-date’ refers to the release of a film on multiple platforms – most commonly theatrical and home video – as many blockbusters have done since the pandemic.
But the star was said to be ‘furious’ when former Paramount CEO Jim Gianopulos informed him about the planned 45-day theatrical window in early 2021.
‘That was not an easy thing for Jim to have to do,’ a source said. ‘Tom is so committed to theatrical.’
At the time, the two agreed to postpone the disagreement until M:I 7 was finished.

The insider said the star, who also produces the M:I movies, felt setting a date when the movie could be viewed on the streaming service would discourage people from going to the theatre.
The release date for the latest instalment of the blockbuster franchise has already been delayed four times and is currently set to premiere on July 23.
Production was halted multiple times due to Covid-19 outbreaks and was shut down for the seventh time in June 2021 when Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie as well as several other people tested positive.
Sources said that several members of Cruise’s family contracted Covid-19 before the star and the director.

Since its debut in 1996, Mission: Impossible has become one of Paramount’s most successful franchises with its six films raking in a total of $3.57billion in box office sales.
The last MI film, 2016’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout was the franchise’s highest-grossing movie to date, bringing in $791million worldwide.
A studio veteran told THR: ‘You would make [‘Mission: Impossible’] 7 and 8 even if you had a full slate.’
The source added: ‘They weren’t crazy expensive by the standards of Marvel, of Bond.’
As production on M:I 8 is underway, sources told THR that Cruise has ‘persuaded Brian Robbins, the new president and CEO of Paramount Pictures, to give him more money to finish the seventh film and make the eighth’.
However, Cruise reportedly entered crisis talks with studio bosses last month after the movie’s budget ballooned to $290million.
