The 25-year-old is one of the standout names for the Blues and would have been destined to start in the first Origin match against Queensland on June 3, but his injury has cast fresh doubt over his availability.

Brad Fittler already has to contend with the absence of South Sydney Rabbitohs star Latrell Mitchell, so Trbojevic’s setback piles more misery on the Blues coach.

The injury came in just his third match back from a knee problem, and just two-and-a-half weeks out from the State of Origin series opener.

Trbojevic had previously been a stand-out for Manly in the match, playing a key role in two tries as the had a 20-16 lead at the time of his injury.

A clutch Mitchell Moses kick late on saw the Eels snatch a 22-20 win in biblical rain.
