Pixel Watch unmasked minutes before Google IO announcement

Google’s long-awaited Pixel Watch could be getting revealed today. The Mountain View firm is rumoured to have been working on its own rival to the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch for some time, with rumours swirling around about a Pixel Watch for years now. And it looks like the Android makers could finally be about to lift the lid on the Pixel Watch during today’s big IO 2022 event which kicks off at 6pm UK time.

If you want to tune in to Google IO 2022 then you can watch the live stream of the event that’s embedded into this article.

But ahead of the IO 2022 start time Google fans could have got their first glimpse of what the Pixel Watch will look like.

Renders of the Pixel Watch have been revealed, based on leaked information on the Google wearable.

According to leaks, the Pixel Watch will have a traditional circular watch face, like the Samsung Galaxy Watch, while it will also have a dial on the side a la the Apple Watch.

It’s believed the Pixel Watch will also boast a sleek bezel-less design, which gives it a minimal and eye-catching look.

In terms of other specs, the Pixel Watch is expected to come with Wear OS installed, but this will be the first time we see the software without a Samsung overlay.

According to insiders, the design of this software will be similar to the Material You design Google offers on Android phones and tablets.

It’s also believed that the Pixel Watch will have Fitbit features integrated, which will help the wearable better compete with the Apple Watch and Samsung Galaxy Watch.

The Pixel Watch will reportedly also have plenty of sensors that Galaxy Watch users will be familiar with.

Tech tipster Yogesh Brar said the Pixel Watch will come with the same sensors as the Galaxy Watch, so that’s an accelerometer, barometer, gyro sensor, geomagnetic sensor, light sensor, optical heart rate sensor, electrical heart sensor as well as a bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor.

While Google fans could get their first glimpse of the Pixel Watch today, it’s believed the Pixel Watch will hit shelves later this year alongside the Pixel 7 range.

A price tag of between $300 and $400 has been mooted.

Earlier this year, tech YouTuber Jon Prosser shared potential details on the Pixel Watch launch plans.

Prosser posted in March: “Google I/O ’22.

“From what I understand, Google will officially be announcing the Pixel 6a + ‘teasing’ the Pixel Watch.

“Pixel 6a launch (in most markets) pushed to July 28th.

“Pixel Watch will be formally announced and launched with Pixel 7 and 7 Pro in October.”

Besides the Pixel Watch, the Pixel 6a could also get announced at IO 2022 while the reveal of Android 13 is also expected to be one of the big announcements from Google.
