NYPD Commissioner Sewell taps former Nassau co-workers for high-ranking jobs

NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell has quietly hired two co-workers from her former gig as a high-ranking Nassau county cop — including a high-paid lawyer and a seasoned detective, The Post has learned.

The city’s top cop last week appointed attorney Nathalie Bell, a former deputy bureau chief at the Nassau County Police Department, as her counsel for an annual salary of $242,116, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

She also tapped longtime Nassau Det. Bob Galgano, who is now serving as advisor to the NYPD Police Commissioner, according to his LinkedIn page. The NYPD has not yet released his salary or confirmed his new job title.

Before Sewell was appointed to the NYPD’s top spot, she served as Nassau’s chief of detectives.

Bell will see a sizable pay increase from the last time she held a government job. In 2019, her last full year at the Nassau Police Department, Bell was paid $111,358, payroll records show.

The police spokesperson did not answer questions about how many others were interviewed for the spot or why there was no announcement for the filling of one of the highest salaried positions at the NYPD.

The only public mention of Bell’s hiring was from her husband, who posted photos of the swearing-in last week and wrote “that NYC and the NYPD picked up a total rock star who is going to assist in cleaning up NYC.”

“Besides, when the Police Commissioner asks you to become her personal attorney, you don’t say no!” he added.

Bell has spent the last three years working at a law practice with her husband, according to her LinkedIn profile.

She worked in Nassau police department for over six years after serving as an assistant district attorney in the Queens DA’s Office for nearly 11 years.

Galgano was brought onto the NYPD in April to serve as Sewell’s right hand, his LinkedIn page shows.

In addition, Wendy Garcia, who previously worked as the chief diversity officer for the city comptroller’s office, was appointed to take over for Tanya Meisenholder as deputy commissioner for equity and inclusion, according to a LinkedIn post from the Nassau County Office of Minority Affairs.

No public announcement was made of the appointment of Garcia or Galgano.
