More details of the supposed-to-be-secret trip have now been reported, with L’Equipe revealing how Kompany helped to organise the medical.

Now the coach of Anderlecht in Belgium, the legendary City defender is said to have been heavily involved in the logistics of arranging Haaland’s trip to the Erasmus Hospital, where he was met by City’s medical staff.

Kompany played for City for 11 years between 2008 and 2019, before becoming player-coach at Anderlecht, eventually hanging up his boots to take up a permanent role in the dugout.

Despite leaving the Etihad, it appears he still has his former club’s best interests at heart, lending a hand to get the Haaland deal over the line.

Sportsmail understands a deal between City and Haaland’s camp was completed last week, with the Norway international expected to earn around £400,000 a week.

Formalities are still to be sorted but it is anticipated that Haaland’s impending move to the Etihad Stadium will be confirmed over the next week.

Having scored 85 goals in 88 appearances, Haaland will bid farewell to the Dortmund supporters after their final Bundesliga game of the season against Hertha Berlin on Saturday.

Securing his services ahead of Real Madrid before the summer represents a major boost for City, who will turn their attention towards a central midfielder.
