According to a British military update Russian forces are advancing from staging areas in Donbas, in the southeast, towards Kramatorsk in the east, which continues to be hit by rocket attacks.
It says Russia is likely to desire demonstrating significant successes ahead of their annual 9th May Victory Day — commemorating the surrender of Nazi Germany in the Second World War — celebrations.
It continues: “Which could affect how quickly and forcefully they attempt to conduct operations in the run-up to this date.
“High levels of Russian air activity endure as Russia seeks to provide close air support to its offensive in eastern Ukraine, to suppress and destroy Ukrainian air defence capabilities.”
