Donny van de Beek 'is set to be handed a chance at Manchester united if Erik ten Hag is appointed'

Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek ‘is set to be handed a lifeline at Old Trafford if Erik ten Hag is appointed as their new manager’ after working together at Ajax

  • Donny van de Beek and Eric ten Hag worked together for three years at Ajax
  • Ten Hag is expected to be appointed as Manchester United’s new manager
  • He will give Van de Beek a chance to prove himself as he holds him in high regard

Donny van de Beek will reportedly get another chance to prove himself at Manchester United if they appoint Erik ten Hag as their new manager.

The pair worked together at Ajax before Van de Beek made a £35million move to United in September 2020.

The 24-year-old has struggled to make an impact during his time at Old Trafford and he joined Everton on loan in an attempt to resurrect his career.

Ten Hag is expected to be appointed as the club’s new permanent manager and Van De Beek will get another chance to prove himself.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim Ten Hag holds the midfielder in high regard and suits the style of play he wants to implement at United.

Van de Beek played under Ten Hag for over three years during his time in Holland and they enjoyed some success together.

They won the Eredivisie title as well as the Dutch cup in the 2018-19 campaign. They also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League before being knocked out in dramatic style by Tottenham.

Expectations were high of Van de Beek once he moved to United but he instantly found himself down the pecking order, making just 27 Premier League appearances before moving to Everton this winter.

He has also struggled to make an impact with the Toffees in their battle against the drop. In six appearances for the club so far, he is yet to register a goal or an assist.

Frank Lampard’s side are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League for the first time following their 3-2 defeat to Burnley on Wednesday night.

But Van de Beek will be hoping to rekindle his form at United if Ten Hag makes the move to Manchester.

Talks have been held with Ajax to establish the terms for Ten Hag’s release as United take a significant step towards appointing the 52-year-old.

Those discussions took place at the end of last week and indicate that United are now ready to press ahead with bringing in Ten Hag, whose Ajax contract expires at the end of next season.
