Manchester City ‘line up bumper new deals for Rodri, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan’ as Pep Guardiola looks to tie down the futures of more key players at the Etihad

  • Man City boss Pep Guardiola is keen to secure the futures of a number of players
  • Rodri, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan will be offered new deals at Man City
  • Rodri, 25, is set to get a ‘lucrative’ pay rise to extend his stay at the club

Manchester City will reportedly offer Rodri, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan new contracts to keep them at the Etihad.

The trio have all played a huge role in City’s recent success and Pep Guardiola is keen to ensure their stay at the club is extended.

Rodri’s current contract expires in two years and he is now set to get a big pay rise.

That’s according to the Daily Star, who claim the 25-year-old will be offered close to £125,000 a week, a big rise compared to his current £70,000 weekly wage.

Rodri has been ever-present in City’s midfield since joining from Atletico Madrid for £56million in 2019.

Earlier this season, Pep Guardiola heaped praise on the Spain International’s level of  consistency.

‘Fernandinho is Fernandinho, Rodri is Rodri. Fernandinho is still with us and has done for this club on the pitch, the people don’t know off the pitch which is amazing,’ Guardiola said.

‘Rodri is 23, 24. Everything is a process. Last season he played good, maybe in the last part of the season dropped a little bit but we gave him more minutes last season – you have to be careful this season.

‘Not one game, he has to be here, seven, right, seven, eight, all the time. Cannot be three or four because it destroys the team, cannot be ten because ten is for the strikers. He is playing this consistency, defensively, offensively.’

The likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, John Stones, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Aymeric Laporte have all recently penned new deals to stay at the Etihad.

Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan both have contracts that expire at the end of next season, but they’re also expected to extend their stay in Manchester.

Guardiola’s side currently sit top of the Premier League, one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool.

But they have a tough run of fixtures coming up after the international break, with games against Jurgen Klopp’s side and Atletico Madrid to follow early in April.
