Seven individuals arrested outside Paris in connection to robbery of Lupin set

Several suspects have been arrested on charges stemming from a robbery of the television show Lupin last month, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Seven individuals between the ages of 13 and 21 were arrested just outside of Paris this week.

The outlet reported that three of the suspects are in custody while the other four are under judicial supervision.

According to Variety, the Lupin crew was filming Part 3 of the series on February 25 when a group of 20 thieves broke on to the set and made off with approximately $330,000 worth of equipment. 

The group threw fireworks before running off with their spoils. None of the cast or crew was injured during the robbery. 

The show’s star Omar Sy was on-set when the robbery occurred.  

The robbery shut down filming for a few days though it picked back up on Monday, February 28. 

Lupin is based on the fictional master thief Arsene Lupin, created by Maurice LeBlanc in 1905, who featured the character in 17 novels and 39 novellas.

Omar Sy plays Assane Diop, a French man who is inspired by these tales and lays out an elaborate scheme to get revenge on the wealthy family who framed his late father. 

Netflix had a string of bad luck in February with the The Crown being robbed just days before Lupin’s set was hit. 

Robbers stole $200,000 worth of props from the show’s set in Northern England on February 24. 

The production had multiple vehicles broken into and The Hollywood Reporter reported more than 350 items were taken including a replica Fabergé egg and gold and silver candelabras.  

Netflix released a statement at the time of The Crown robbery which read, ‘We can confirm the antiques have been stolen and we hope that they are found and returned safely. Replacements will be sourced, there is no expectation that filming will be held up.’
