PSV Eindhoven midfielder Mario Gotze has revealed their team bus was parked at a different hotel to avoid noisy firework displays on the eve of their Europa Conference League clash with Copenhagen.

The two teams went into Thursday with the tie hanging in the balance following an entertaining 4-4 draw in the first leg.

But PSV brushed the Danish team aside with a comfortable 4-0 win away from home, with Gotze even getting on the scoresheet himself.

And the 29-year-old has revealed they took a brilliant plan of action after hearing Copenhagen fans were planning to interrupt them the night before the game by setting up loud fireworks outside of their hotel.

In his post-match interview, Gotze was asked whether he liked fireworks and whether he was expecting them. Confused at first, the interviewee went into more detail and Gotze broke into laughter.

He said: ‘Yeah, we placed the bus at the hotel, so it was on purpose. I slept very well!’

PSV went into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Eran Zahavi and Gotze. Zahavi then got his second of the game in the 79th minute before Noni Madueke completed the thrashing in injury-time.

The draw for the quarter-finals of the Europa Conference League will be made on Friday afternoon with Leicester, Marsielle, Roma, PAOK, Slavia Prague, Feyenoord and FK Bodø/Glimt all in the hat.
