‘She’s really hit the mark’ Sophie Wessex’s style has evolved since joining the Firm

Sophie Rhys-Jones married Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and the youngest son of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh in June 1999 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. The couple met in 1987 while Sophie was working in public relations for Capital Radio.

As a PR, Sophie dressed in bright, printed garments, seemingly unafraid to stand out from the crowd.

She also favoured skirts and oversized jackets, following the popular shoulder-pad trend of the 80s and early 90s.

The Royal was never seen in heels and she rarely wore jewellery.

But, after entering the Royal Family, her look changed.

“Sophie has hit her style stride in recent years,” Samantha claimed.

“She has an excellent understanding of her shape and the colours that look great on her.

“As we’ve seen throughout the years, she isn’t afraid of print and colour, but in more recent years she’s really hit the mark.”

The fashion expert went on to refer to some of the Countess’ most recent outfits, saying: “She understands proportions.

“For example, the gorgeous A-line floral skirt she wore to the Royal Ascot with a white shirt last year.

“The white shirt is a classic wardrobe staple, but here it’s updated with cool ruffle sleeves.

“Sophie paired the look with a snakeskin bag, which shows she isn’t afraid to pattern-clash and understands the principles of getting that right.”

Samantha claimed that Sophie “excels” at Royal Ascot every year and women going to similar events should take inspiration from the Countess.

The fashion expert said: “From a chic blush pink dress and hat to a more edgy navy jumpsuit, if you’re going to the races this year and you’re unsure how to dress, take a look at Sophie’s Ascot style.”

“I think what women can relate to about Sophie’s style is that you get the impression that this is her actual wardrobe,” Samantha added.

“She’s a working royal, but also a mum who is going about running errands and juggling work and family.

“You get the idea that she’s got a closet of good quality pieces that she wears on repeat. And that’s what great style is all about – adding the pieces into your wardrobe that you can dress up or down and wear forever.”
