Officials Evacuate Children, Sick and Elderly From Makariv as Russian Attacks Intensify

Kyiv Region Police Force reported it evacuated more than 500 civilians from Makariv on March 7 as attacks on the besieged city, located 50 kilometres (31 miles) west of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, intensified.Ukrainian authorities said 42 children, as well as civilians who were sick or elderly, were among those evacuated while another rescue operation was also conducted in Irpin.This footage, posted by Kyiv Region Police Force employee Andrey Nebitov and shared on the official Facebook page of the Kyiv Region Police Force, shows families running to buses and the extent of damage to the city.“Joy is to see in the eyes of children – faith in the future, not panic and fear. We hold on!Today, the police of Kyiv region managed to save more than 500 civilians, including over 40 children from the occupied Makarov,” Kyiv Region Police Force wrote in a Facebook post.Earlier on March 7, at least 13 people were killed in a Russian attack on an industrial bakery in Makariv, Ukrainian authorities said.The attack on the factory took place as the number of people fleeing across borders passed 1.7 million, according to the UN Refugee Agency.A third round of talks between Russia and Ukraine on Monday made little progress towards easing the conflict.
