1 teen dead, 2 critically injured in shooting at Iowa high school

A teenager was dead and two others were critically injured in a shooting at an Iowa high school Monday, police said.

Des Moines police Sgt. Paul Parizek said multiple people have been detained for questioning after the attack Monday afternoon at East High School.

The gunfire appeared to have erupted from a passing vehicle, police said later.

The identities and ages of the three victims were not available, and police could not say whether they were students.

All three victims were initially said to have been hospitalized in critical condition. Police announced the death in their latest statement just before the evening hours.

Parizek said at a news conference at the school that the attack happened outside, on school grounds.

The campus was initially placed on lockdown. Police and the public school district later gave an all-clear for the campus and its neighborhood, indicating that there was no active crime.
