‘Not want to beg me to stay?’ Kelvin Fletcher on wife’s sad reaction to big news

Emmerdale star Kelvin Fletcher has responded to his wife Liz Fletcher’s reaction after she shared some life-changing news with him. The star of Kelvin’s Big Farming Adventure, 38, made the comments on Kate Thornton’s White Wine Question Time podcast, where she also spoke to Kelvin’s wife-of-seven-years, Liz, as they reflected on a life-changing decision she made early into her relationship with the soap star.

Speaking about how she went into a fashion buying career straight after school, Liz admitted that she was “unhappy” as she missed performing.

After singing in a musical, Liz told how she was inspired to leave her job and go back to drama school at the age of 28.

However, the star explained that she had to break the news to Kelvin after only just having moved in together.

Speaking on the podcast, Liz said: “I said to him, ‘Listen, I know we’ve just moved in together but I’ve just been offered a place in drama school. I’ve got to move to London next month and I’ve just got to do this and go with it.

“‘I’m so miserable at work now, it’s not working out for me, this is what I feel is the right thing to do.'”

Liz revealed that her beau was supportive of her choice to up and move to London, despite them being apart.

She went on: “He was like, ‘Go for it, if that’s what you want to do, go for it.’

“We weren’t engaged, we didn’t have kids, we didn’t have any responsibilities,” she explained.

Liz chipped in: “We are very open minded in that area, aren’t we?” to which Kelvin agreed.

“You’ve got to be,” he replied, before adding, “You’ve got to let your loved ones, somebody you care for, you want them to absolutely chase their goals, their dreams and you don’t ever want to hold them back.”

However, Kelvin admitted that hearing that Liz was going to move to London had a “detrimental effect” on him, admitting that it was “selfishly hard to take”.

But he went on to joke: “Then there’s that whole thing of, ‘Oh, so you want me to go? You’re not even going to -” he started before cutting in, “it’s like, ‘Yeah if you want to.”
