F1 rule change will be like music to Lewis Hamilton's ears after Max Verstappen heartbreak

In previous seasons, when drivers were given the go-ahead to rejoin the lead lap at the end of the safety car period, the safety car would return to the pits “once the last lapped car has passed the leader,” according to the regulations.

But now the rules have been updated to allow the safety car to return to the pits “once the message ‘lapped cars may now overtake’ has been sent to all competitors using the official messaging system.”

The rule change has been implemented to allow safety car periods to conclude more quickly after drivers have rejoined the lead lap.

And the tweak will be like music to Hamilton’s ears after he saw the 2021 title snatched away from him in heartbreaking fashion.
