Diogo Jota injury worse than feared as Liverpool dealt blow after scan results

Diogo Jota could miss the Carabao Cup final after scan results showed the Liverpool star’s injury is worse than first feared. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed after the 2-0 Champions League last-16 first leg win over Inter Milan on Wednesday that Jota had suffered damage around the ankle ligaments. However, Klopp claimed the issue “didn’t seem serious”.

Jota has been in fine goalscoring form for Liverpool this season.

The 25-year-old is the club’s second-top scorer in all competitions and second behind Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

He has received huge plaudits for his performances, especially when Salah and Sadio Mane were at the recent Africa Cup of Nations.

But it appears he could be set for a spell on the sidelines.

But Jota will be a big miss and was recently labelled one of the best strikers in the world on current form by Arsenal legend Ray Parlour.

“What he’s done since Salah and Mane have been away, Jota, has been unbelievable,” Parlour said on talkSPORT.

“I think he’s the best No 9 at the moment. He’s been absolutely sensational since they lost Mane and Salah.

“I like his work rate, the way he conducts himself every game, the goals he scores and I think he’s going to get better.”
