Mock the Week comedian Ed Byrne responds to well wishes after brother Paul’s sudden death

Mock The Week’s Ed Byrne took to Twitter last night to thank everyone who had reached out to send their condolences over the death of his younger brother, Paul. The 49-year-old comedian described the messages sent to him by some of his 441,000 followers as “a big help”.

He penned: “Thank you all for the lovely messages of condolence.

“Too many to respond to directly, they have been a big help.

“Normal service will be resumed eventually and I’ll go back to boring you all with photographs of me holding beers as soon as I can.”

Fans promptly responded to Ed’s tweet, giving him some words of advice as he navigates grief.

“I can empathise with what you’re feeling as I lost my big brother Mark 7 1/2 yrs ago to Myeloma.

“He pops into my mind at unexpected moments & I still cry, but that’s a good thing.”

Paul Byrne died on Friday aged 45 following a battle with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with at the start of the Edinburgh Fringe festival in 2013.

The comedy director’s talent agent confirmed that he had died after a “short illness”.
