Adele cheekily laughs after Graham Norton mocks Las Vegas cancellations

Adele, 33, appeared on The Graham Norton Show on Friday night for the first time in more than 10 years. Unsurprisingly, the conversation swiftly turned to the last-minute cancellation of her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency, and Graham took the opportunity to poke fun at the debacle.

Towards the end of the show, singer George Ezra performed his new single, Anyone For You, and Graham probed him on an upcoming gig.

Graham said to the Shotgun singer: “You are doing a big live show in the summer, Finsbury Park, on July 17?”

An unsure looking George put his hands up and unconvincingly agreed that was the date of the show.

He then explained: “The thing is, I think you called me out for this last time because I wasn’t sure of the specific date. But I genuinely go on a week-to-week basis.”

The host then made a quip at Adele’s expense: “And also no artist ever knows when anything’s happening. Don’t worry about it.”

On the defence, Adele turned to Graham and exclaimed: “I do! I always know when something is happening!”

And Graham quickly skewered: “You don’t know when Vegas is happening!”

Fortunately, Adele saw the funny side and burst into laughter.

“It would have been a really half-a***d show and I can’t do that. People will see straight through me up on the stage and know I didn’t want to be doing it.

“I’ve never done anything like that in my life and I’m not going to start now.”

Graham then pointed out that most fans simply want to hear Adele’s voice and if she performed with just “a piano, a lightbulb and a microphone” then people “would have been happy”.

Adele responded: “There was a part of the show that was like that, but I feel like I’ve always had a really great incline with my shows… And I go on every night loving my show because I know it is a great show.

“It’s Vegas, it can’t just be me on my f***ing guitar. There has to be something else happening.”

Adele didn’t give a specific date for when the shows will be rescheduled but assured fans it will happen this year.

It comes after Adele stormed the Brit Awards this week and took home three out of the four awards she was nominated for.

She won Artist of the Year, Best Single for Easy On Me, and Best Pop/R&B Act.

The Graham Norton show is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
