Adele gives first live show at BRIT Awards since canceling Vegas residency

Adele returned to the stage Tuesday, wowing fans with not only a possible engagement ring, but her first live performance since the last-minute cancellation of her Las Vegas residency.

The beloved crooner took to the stage at the BRIT Awards, where her album “30” was nominated in four award categories, including album of the year.

Decked in gold, Adele sang her the boozy ballad “I Drink Wine.” She also scooped up the awards for both Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Easy on Me.”

The show at London’s 02 arena took place a little over two weeks since the 33-year-old singer announced her “Weekends With Adele” residency at Caesars Palace, which had been set to begin Jan. 21 and run through mid-April, would be indefinitely postponed.

“Hi. Umm, listen,” the songwriter told fans in a Twitter clip announcing the bad news. “I’m so sorry, but my show ain’t ready.”

The pop star reportedly clashed with the venue and their desire for her to perform with a 60-member choir while she wanted to prioritize keeping shows “low-key” and “all about the voice.”

It has also been reported the postponement followed the best-selling artist throwing a fit over a swimming pool stunt. Sources close to the star have also told outlets the residency was destined for “disaster” well before it was formally postponed.

In addition to Adele, artists Ed Sheeran, Sam Fender, Holly Humberstone, Liam Gallagher and rappers Little Simz and Dave also performed at the UK music awards ceremony, which was hosted by comedian Mo Gilligan.

The awards show — one of few not canceled over the course of the past two years as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic — made headlines in November when organizers announced male and female artist categories would be scrapped, ABC reported.

Instead, nominees would be celebrated “solely for their music and work, rather than how they choose to identify or as others may see them,” according to a statement by organizers at the time. In addition to ending gendered categories, the 2022 ceremony also added awards for best alternative/rock act, hip hop/grime/rap act, dance act and pop/R&B act.
