Slugging meaning: What is hair and skin slugging? Do these TikTok beauty hacks work?

Slugging isn’t as gross as it sounds. The term refers to the act of slathering a thick moisturiser or product on your face or hair in order to keep them hydrated. This trend is mainly popular on TikTok, with people sharing the beauty secret on the app claiming that it totally transforms skin and hair. Does it actually work though? Express.co.uk chatted to two experts to find out.

What is skin slugging?

As the name might suggest, slugging refers to covering your face in an occlusive moisturiser, like petroleum jelly, to help prevent water loss.

This is apparently a staple in Korean skincare because it is believed to leave skin hydrated, plump and glowing.

The concept gained popularity on TikTok in the summer of 2021 and became one of the biggest skincare hacks on the platform, gaining over 25 million views.

It’s making the rounds once more and beauty lovers across the globe are swearing by the trend.
