Bundesliga manager Steffen Baumgart forced to watch game at home and is just as animated

When you REALLY can’t cope with working from home! German football manager jumps, shouts and screams at his TV while being forced off the touchline by a positive Covid test… leaving his dog VERY bemused

  • Koln boss Steffen Baumgart missed their game at the weekend due to Covid-19
  • His daughter has posted a video of him watching their game against Freiburg
  • He screams at the television and paces up and down the living room
  • The family dog puts their paws on his shoulders in an effort to calm him down

Koln manager Steffen Baumgart was unable to be on the touchline at the weekend due to a positive Covid-19 test, but he was every bit as animated just watching their game with his family at home.

The 50-year-old was forced to watch the Bundesliga side at home as they battled to a 1-0 victory over Freiburg.

And a TikTok video posted by his daughter shows the manager screaming at his television as he jumps up and down and even needs to be calmed down by the family dog.

Baumgart does all this while watching the game with his family, who seem unfazed by his actions as though they’ve seen it all before.

In the one minute video he is barely seen sitting down as he paces up and down the living room like he was still on the touchline and shouts in front of the television.

At one point the dog jumps on the sofa and stands up putting their paws on his shoulders in an effort to calm him down.

The video was shared by Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker who commented: ‘The dog is like the fourth official trying to calm him down.’

One Twitter user commented: ‘You know what they say, dogs are man(agers) best friend,’ while another posted: ‘Who takes the role of the dog on the coaching staff.’

During the video, Baumgart is also seen to be wearing the same cap as he does during games even though he’s indoors.

Archie Rindt-Tutt posted on Twitter: ‘For some context, here’s how Steffen Baumgart usually patrols the touchline. You’ll notice that all he was missing today was his bodywarmer. Vibes: exactly the same.’

The Koln manager would have been pleased with the result, as Anthony Modeste’s 23rd minute handed them all three points in his absence.

Freiburg thought they had equalled the clash when Christian Streich found the net, but it was ruled out for VAR.

After only keeping their place in the Bundesliga last season after winning a relegation play-off, they are enjoying a much better campaign this time currently sitting in sixth which would put them in next year’s Europa Conference League.
