Man Utd and Middlesbrough fans boo stadium announcement 'How is that possibly true'

Manchester United and Middlesbrough fans booed a bizarre announcement about half-time refreshments during their FA Cup clash at Old Trafford. The Red Devils were leading their Championship opponents 1-0 towards the end of the first half when the stadium’s public address system told fans they would not be able to purchase food at the break.

Jadon Sancho’s deflected strike had put United ahead midway through the first half.

It came after Cristiano Ronaldo’s rare penalty miss. The legendary forward slammed his effort wide of Joe Lumley’s goal after Paul Pogba had been fouled in the box.

Ralf Rangnick’s side dominated the first half and could have led by more. Sancho struck the bar in an impressive individual performance.

But fans enjoying the display were soon angered when it was announced that a technical error meant that food and drink would not be sold at half-time.

“Due to a technical fault, we will not be able to sell food or drink at half-time,” the announcer clarified.

It was met by boos and groans from inside Old Trafford. Some United fans reportedly chanted: “We want Glazers out!”

According to several journalists inside the ground, supporters turned their anger on the controversial owners of United.

The chant references the supporters’ long-standing frustration with the direction of the club.

Rangnick has improved the 20-times top-flight champions but still faces a fight to win the job on a permanent basis.

Former Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino, now in charge at PSG, and Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag are the top contenders to be appointed.

On Thursday, Rangnick insisted he was unaware of possible discussion between the club and Pochettino.

“I have no idea. My full focus is on training the group right now, we have in games coming up in three different competitions,” the 63-year-old said.

“I couldn’t give any reasonable answer to that question, my focus is on the next couple of games, weeks and months, be as successful as we can be.”
