Brian Turner snapped at James Martin during live cooking session: 'I'm going to hit you!

James Martin, 49, returns to our screens today in his ‘James Martin’s Saturday Morning’. He is joined by comedian and travel writer Dom Joly, while fellow chefs Brian Turner, and Emily and Amy Chung drop by to offer some recipes of their own. James has graced our screens for years, having made his TV debut in 1996.

Leaving his flagship Saturday Kitchen show on the BBC in 2017, he moved to ITV where he currently enjoys a regular lineup of star-studded guests.

Brian, 75, has repeatedly featured on the show, the pair going back a long way.

But, despite their friendship and working relationship, things have not always gone to plan in the kitchen.

In 2019, Brian warned James that he’d “hit” him as they showed viewers how to prepare a scallop and streaky bacon dish.

James, ever his witty self, attempted to usher Brian along, and said: “Why don’t I do that and you cook the scallops?

“Otherwise the news will be on in a minute.”

Brian replied: “Are we running out of time? I’m being so relaxed here.”

James hit back: “My director’s saying we’ve missed it ‒ it’s been on already!

“Just get them [scallops] in the pan, fella.”

JUST IN‘What’s wrong with you?’ James Martin scolded over portion size

The moment was quickly laughed off, however, and the segment ended with everyone, guests included, tucking into the dish.

It was not the only time James found himself tangled in a bit of banter with a fellow chef.

Last month, he welcomed cook Gareth Ward to the kitchen, showing viewers how to make onion squash soup.

Trying the dish, Gareth said: “It’s unbelievable that is.

“No, you do alright cooking, don’t you?”

James replied, laughing: “It’s alright in 10 minutes, that.

“Well, a bit of practice. We’re on year 29”, referring to the number of years he has been in the business.

Gareth quipped: “I reckon you might nail it one day, you know,” to which James replied: “I’ll do alright, will I?”

Live cooking shows are not James’ only forte, with the chef having travelled the world tasting and attempting to cook various culinary treats.

One of the ones he enjoyed most came in 2018 during his ‘American Adventures’ series, when he searched high and low for some of the US’ most famous dishes.

James Martin’s Saturday Morning airs Saturdays at 9:25am on ITV.
